Can Outsourcing Plug Your Skills Gap?

Mark Garnish and Simon Hill have had a long, successful history of working in Legal Technology and helping law firms across the world. Their new venture post Tikit, Xperate plugs an interesting gap for mid level Law firms and smaller Legal Tech vendors that require development and project management resources. In most western economies it is becoming increasingly difficult to find good software developers, if you can find them you have to manage them and then you have to retain them. Large enterprises have recognised these challenges for years which is why many of the major  outsourced services businesses in […]

Law Firms To Be Client-Focused Not Client Compelled?

Authored by Joel Barolsky* There are thousands of well-meaning articles stressing the importance of being client-focused. This usually means meeting or exceeding clients’ expectations, being responsive, reliable, and accessible.  So, what happens if a client asks for a discount? If your firm has client-focus as a strategic objective, surely the correct answer must be to say, “yes”. A lower fee is the client’s stated expectation. To be consistent with your objective, you must meet or exceed their request.  My answer is, “no”!  Just giving in on price is being client-compelled. Client focus is not about acquiescing to the client’s every […]

Legal Sector Cloud Adoption

By John Duckett* Predictably and inevitably, the legal sector has been moving into the Cloud, and the Pandemic has only accelerated this journey. For several years, IPS has been advocating a Cloud-first approach for legal IT, most prominently through our annual (pre-COVID) Taking IT to the Cloud conference. Coinciding with these conferences, we conducted surveys and wrote papers on our findings. The firms that participate in these surveys were from 150 plus users, and therefore the results may not reflect the broader legal sector. We also conduct other surveys as well as referencing legal surveys conducted by other organisations. The […]
